THE STATE OF AMERICA IN FAHRENHEIT 11/9

I remember being an usher as a teenager for a Famous Players theater in Mississauga called Sussex Centre where Michael Moore‘s first documentary called Roger and Me screened back in 1989.  Nobody really came out to watch the film about General Motors downsizing their plant in Flint, Michigan resulting in a loss of 30,000 jobs and Michael Moore attempting to get an interview with CEO Roger Smooth.  Fast forward almost thirty years later, Michael Moore has now become the goto filmmaker if we want to know the true state of America.  From discussing the school shootings in Bowling for Columbine, to the tragic events that took place on September 11th that was commented further in Fahrenheit 9/11, Michael Moore has put it all together in a fine documentary form of what America truly is today which is far from a democracy.

Fahreneheit 11/9 focuses on the rise of none other than Donald Trump and he does it chronologically and examines of how it all began.  Now it may have been Gwen Stefani who may have inspired Donald Trump to become President of the United States but we cannot solely blame her for his uprising.  There were many factors that came into play for Trump and there were so many players as well.  All media such as CNN, Fox News, and CBS were all cashing in on this cash cow called Donald Trump who was threatening to become the President of the United States and all the anchors, journalists and reporters were literally laughing their way to the bank.  But there were also major players like Steve Bannon who was the CEO of the Trump presidential campaign who curated these televised and controversial rallies all across America.  Nevertheless, we can be here all day and discuss what made Trump win but Michael Moore showed us how he solved his own puzzle to become the President and it was sneaky.

The film then goes into fine detail of what kind of country Donald Trump is running or what kind of country he is running into the ground.  It sheds light on the sketchy relationship between the Governor of Michigan Richard Snyder and Donald Trump and how the two were players in the Flint water issue that has handicapped the city.  We all know that Michael Moore is from Flint and he holds this city to his heart but he calls the lead in the drinking water in Flint an act of terrorism.  We get into the shootings in Parkland, Florida and how a band of teenagers from the area took a stand and became responsible for a global demonstration against guns and violence.  We also get into the false alarm of a missle attack that was set to happen in Hawaii in which Michael Moore sums up “this is the world that we live” after seeing many people in Hawaii running for cover or basically running for nothing.

The people of America and many across the world are living in fear and Donald Trump is taking full advantage of that which is even examined in Bob Woodward book “Fear”.  Fahrenehit 9/11 could have not said it any better and the system that Trump has taken over has fueled his fire.  There are plenty of things that are going wrong in America which is why at this certain second, Trump is in power.  But where this film inspires are all the little players who are taking a stance such as those teenagers in Florida.  These teens know what is right and wrong and know that their future is at stake and they are going to do all the things that are necessary to make things right in America again.  If Donald Trump is the “storm” that he calls himself then the people of America have to do what is best to weather the storm and pick up the pieces when he leaves.  Unfortunately, that state is the America that Michael Moore calls what all Americans aspires to be.
