RADICAL HONESTY ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS @SXSW 2022
Director Bianca Poletti sprinkles charm on today’s hookup culture
The topic of relationships. Yes, they are so complicated. Dating apps have made relationships that much more complex. There are so many more options to choose from but so much garbage to filter out. The hookup culture has been the result of these apps and finding the one has become an anomaly. Relationships have taken a wide turn in the past decade where it has opened up much further. Even the modern open relationship is changing its definition every day and there are no signs of it stopping. Tangents are acceptable.
Director Bianca Poletti
Director Bianca Poletti comments on this new normal in her short film Radical Honesty. Set to premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, the humorous short was written by lead actress Allison Goldfarb. She along with actor John Hein play two strangers on a date in a restaurant discussing the meaning of today’s relationships.
As they speak of today’s expectations of relationships, the audience learns that the days of monogamous relationships are over. Let alone a fairy tale. Both Goldfarb and Hein construct a deconstruction of what it means to be in a relationship. That continuous search for fulfillment doesn’t cease but rather it digs deeper into emptiness. Radical Honesty is quite surprising but ballsy at its forefront.
SXSW has always been fantastic in showing very upfront short films from some of the directors of the future. Director Bianca Poletti is not an up-and-comer. She is already here. Poletti has already done numerous commercials, music videos and short films. Radical Honesty is a dire opportunity to poke fun at the current state of relationships and dating. Since it has gone downhill and there is no turning back, to look at it from a comedic perspective is rather enlightening. Director Bianca Poletti will charm you with Radical Honesty in a complex situation.
Both Goldfarb and Poletti are working on an expanded TV series version of Radical Honesty in production with Epoch Films. The series focuses on young Angeleno Eastsiders looking for love in all the wrong places in Los Angeles.
