Uma Thurman is Pretty Lethal @SXSW 2026
Five ballerinas are in the fight of their lives against Uma Thurman in Pretty Lethal

Pretty Lethal is the latest genre-defying thriller poised to make a splash at the 2026 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival, marking a bold fusion of action, horror, and dark comedy. Directed by Vicki Jewson and written by Kate Freund, the film follows five elite ballerinas whose journey to a prestigious dance competition spirals into a fight for survival when their bus breaks down deep in a remote forest. Seeking refuge at a secluded roadside inn, the dancers soon discover that their host — Devora Kasimer, played by Uma Thurman — is a mysterious former ballet prodigy with sinister intentions, turning what should have been a brief respite into a deadly, high-stakes confrontation that forces grace and discipline to become weapons.

Anchored by Thurman’s chilling presence as the enigmatic antagonist, Pretty Lethal also showcases a dynamic ensemble cast, including Maddie Ziegler, Lana Condor, Iris Apatow, Avantika, and Millicent Simmonds, blending physical performance with visceral storytelling. Jewson’s vision reimagines the precision and intensity of ballet as “ballet-fu” combat, pushing the cast to translate their characters’ artistic skill into survival tactics in a contained, tension-filled setting. With its world premiere at SXSW preceding a global streaming release on Prime Video, the film is positioned as one of 2026’s most talked-about festival debuts. FERNTV says that this will be action packed.
