Mr. X relaunches during TIFF 50 as they screen their work on director Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein

At this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, FERNTV had the chance to sit down with Dennis Berardi, the visionary behind the relaunch of Mr. X. The award-winning visual effects company, long regarded as one of Canada’s most innovative studios, used TIFF as the perfect stage to reintroduce its brand and future direction. Berardi, a pioneer in the Canadian film industry, spoke passionately about elevating Mr. X’s role in shaping the future of visual storytelling while staying true to its roots as a hub for creativity and cutting-edge artistry.
A highlight of the conversation centred on Mr. X’s collaboration with Guillermo del Toro on his highly anticipated adaptation of Frankenstein, which premiered at TIFF 50. Berardi shared insights into the artistry and technical mastery required to bring such a legendary story to life, crediting the Mr. X team for pushing boundaries to realize del Toro’s distinct vision. The project, which blends gothic atmosphere with groundbreaking visual effects, marks another milestone in the company’s long-standing relationship with one of cinema’s most imaginative directors.

Beyond the big screen, Mr. X also celebrated its relaunch with an exclusive event at Malaparte at TIFF Lightbox, gathering filmmakers, industry professionals, and creatives to mark the next chapter of the studio. The evening underscored Mr. X’s commitment to collaboration and innovation while giving guests a glimpse into what lies ahead for the company. As Berardi reflected during our interview, TIFF wasn’t just a moment of celebration, but a bold statement that Mr. X is ready to continue shaping the stories and cinematic worlds audiences will never forget.
