Sly to close TIFF2023
TIFF honouring the career of Sylvester Stallone as the biopic film Sly will close the festival

Sly will be the closing film at the 48th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival this year. The biopic film of the illustrious career of Sylvester Stallone will premiere at the Roy Thomson Hall on Saturday 16th, 2023.
The film Sly is directed by Thom Zimny who weaves this intimate portrait of the career of Sylvester Stallone. This Hollywood legend has worked as an actor, producer and director for a span of 50 years. Zimny dived into the early years of Stallone when he was brought up in an angry household. Stallone would always be at the movies and when he would come home would start writing scripts. He broke through with Rocky in he wrote the script and had to fight for the role as well. The rest was history from that point on. Stallone rose up to stardom so quickly that he could not grip himself.
It wasn’t a clear and present path for Sylvester Stallone. He became known as an action star with the Rocky and Rambo franchises. These two characters were much like Stallone himself who was an underdog and had to climb the obstacles to the level that he is at today. Stallone was in films such as Cliffhanger, Cobra and Demolition Man. Stallone is also involved in recent franchises The Expendables and Creed for which he received an Oscar nomination. He is currently in The Tulsa King series which was renewed for a second season.
“Stallone’s story is one of perseverance, triumph, and his indelible mark left on the world of film, and we couldn’t be more honoured to share it with our audiences as our Closing Night film,” said Cameron Bailey, TIFF CEO.
