After speaking with director Selma Vilhunen in regards to her debut feature Little Wing, we were reminded here on FERNTV how difficult it is to cast a 13 year old lead for a film.  There is a small time frame from when you choose your actress for the lead role until the filming is all said and done.  They say at this age range that they grow up too fast which is why director Selma Vilhunen had to be on top of their game in filming Little Wing because she would not be little for too long.  Thirteen year old Linnea Skog was the chosen one for the film and she in fact carried the film along with the support of Finnish pop sensation Paula Vesala with so much poise and confidence.  Linnea Skog rode that fine line of what it means to be a 13 year old child of a single mother who is adventurous and a risk taker to being vulnerable and emotional.  Little Wing was all about Linnea Skog

Little Wing has to be one of the surprise hits at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.  The film has so much heart along with a beautiful and charming storyline.  Despite commenting on the challenges of single motherhood, what you expect to be a tearjerker from Little Wing ends up being a film that makes you shed tears of joy instead.  The performance of Linnea Skog does remind many of us of what it is really like to be when you are tween and your parents are separated and there is the complete of absence of one of them.  Little Wing is one of those films that really hits home and a film that the audience can relate to in so many different ways.   But once more it is the way that this story is crafted by director Selma Vilhunen which makes it an enjoyable film to watch.
