Do you want to know what Clint Stewart is cooking in his music cauldron? Just to let you know that is it a stew of goodness READ MORE...

After taking the yearly exciting journey to WMC 2010, I realized after all the happy chaos that goes on during that week is that Nic Fanciulli has really become a premium player in this industry.  Nothing to do with the fact that he has two banging remixes currently on Beatport but Nic has really carved a really sweet niche for himself and his listeners and it could not have come at a better time for the Saved Records owner.  Sure you can listen to  “Two Dots” and “Saints and Sinners” but if you don’t know the style of Nic’s then you don’t know the long hard work that has been put into his sound.  From his remixes of “Sudoko Kid” to letting the “Cat Out of the Bag”, Nic has come along way to produce a fine and polished sound.

When attending his Saved Records party at SET and watching him play back to back with Joris Voorn, I realized that not only Nic can hold his own but the sound that he is putting together through his sets is just gratifying and evangelistic at times.   After all the planning, organizing and travelling that goes into the preparation for a week at WMC, Nic Fanciulli now has the power to make you say that you have finally made it to WMC when you listen to him.  Without having to count on all the big names DJs to give you that comfort level of enjoyment, Nic Fanciulli puts all the envisioning that is going on through your head before you even make the trip to Miami in real form.

Nic has finally taken the centre stage for himself and is a true visionary of this industry.  Including Joris Voorn and playing back to back with him during the Saved Records party was intelligent.  Having the two who have produced under the Dusty House Series is truly an appreciated banging sound that kicked off the week of South Beach mayhem totally in the right direction.  Nothing to take away from the ONE+ONE sets with James Zabiela or his warm-up sets for the likes of Dubfire or his alongside sets with Global Underground artists, but it is kind of nice to see that Nic is the final act period.

Not only was I impressed with the Saved Records party but Nic Fanciulli’s early afternoon set during the DJ Mag party at the Shelborne complemented everything and anything that has to do with WMC.  The tone he set for the west of the way that afternoon had Djs like Steve Lawler and Dennis Ferrer playing homage to the old school.   What made me realize that Nic has a true love for the music and is not a DJ who decided to spin overnight was his selection of tracks during his set.  It was somewhat a true dedication to the old school that took back die-hard fans of this music to many different time realms.   Old tracks such as Cheek’s “Venus” and Tim Green’s mix of Cassius’s 1999 where some of the tracks that tickled you ear once again.  Even a sample of Hardrive’s “Deep Inside” was put into the mix that wowed fans like myself away.

Going from main act one night to set the toner the next day shows the versatility of Nic Fanciulli.  In addition to this is, what will make Nic Fanciulli a mainstay in the future is his respect for other artists.  Before Dennis Ferrer came on whose number one song “Hey Hey” played throughout the whole entire week, Nic complemented his set by dropping Arado and Den Ishu’s “R.U.W.M.” which is a remix of Moodymann’s “Shades of Jae”.  This of course shows the respect that he has for Dennis to of course fire up his set and to the different styles of house that we were all once accustomed to.

Being humble is what makes Nic Fanciulli stand out from the rest especially during times like these where it is definitely not easy to gain listeners and really easy to lose them.  Saved Records will be a label that will always gain in the future because the character leadership that Nic brings to the table with his artists is definitely the means of it being sustainable.  As the label shows that it is a premium player on the charts today, Nic is definitely showing that he can hang with the heavyweights.  With Mark Broom under his stable who is the most underrated techno artist today, nothing can go wrong.  But of course that’s a whole different story.
