The music continues to run in the blood of the Osbournes especially with Louis Osbourne who is taking his musical career to new heights. Like his father Ozzie, Louis has taken a no-nonsense approach to running his label Mija Recordings and releasing banging tracks that are representative of his style and vision. Louis Osbourne always has a plan in mind whether it is dropping the next track to his set, releasing an EP from one of his artists or making life choices in general. The man who also has a law degree under his belt will soon be making strides with his Mija parties this year and is ready to heat it up in Ibiza this summer as well. With all this in tact and the amount of experience behind him in the music industry, Louis Osbourne is certainly not barking up the wrong tree. Name That Track had to find out why Louis Osbourne is barking at the moon instead with his music...

NTT: Tell us a little bit about Mija Recordings and why you had to get this done?

Louis: Mija Recordings is my own label set up in the summer of 2009. We are just promoting our 6th release that will be out in late March. We have done vinyl and digital format releases, but are now just doing digital as the vinyl was too risky. At the moment we are Exclusive to Beatport, but are setting up accounts on Whatpeopleplay, and some other stores.

So we have had releases and remixes from Android Cartel, Jet Project, Alan Fitzpatrick, Celtec Twinz, Jamie Anderson, Psycatron, Miniminds, M.in and Daniele Papini, January 2010 sees Mija release Jamie Anderson Feat. K-Alexi– Cyclone, with further EP’s and remixes due in the next months from Jet Project, UES, Carlo, Patrick Zigon, Android Cartel and the Dirty Tourists. I am also preparing my debut release on the label as well.

Setting up a label had been on my mind for sometime as I’ve always wanted to create an organisation that I could put my own vision to. I wanted to build a label around my own musical experience and my own style. That’s
all you really can do from a musical perspective. However I also want to
build a good brand around the label that will enable me to run label tours
for my artists and I. It’s tough to make ends meet by just selling music
these days, so the label is our calling card to go out and do events.

NTT: You have a law degree to fall back on...do you feel that it is important
for DJs to have something to fall back just like in sports in case things go
wrong?

Louis: It’s always good to have a plan B, but I won’t be going into legal
practice. I’m not cut out for it. I went back to college for 3 years in
2005 to do my law degree to better educate my self. I felt that all I’d
really done was travel, DJ & party since I was 18! I felt I needed to
exercise my mind a little. It was very rewarding and it’s a very useful
discipline to have when running a label. I think it’s good to consider
your long term options and make some kind of plans, you can’t DJ
forever........ Although some may like to think so.

NTT: It is a real exciting time for the electronic music industry especially
in the house and techno genres, why do you think there was a little bit of a
lull or dark period after when Sneak, Carter and Green Velvet were
dominating the scene?

Louis: I never felt a lull, there’s always been good music out there, you just
gotta find it! Yes the scene went a bit Tribal/Prog, then Electro House,
then minimal, but there’s always been a lot of good music. You just have
to be selective about what you buy, which DJ’s you go to see and what
clubs to go to. There’s a big swing at the moment towards housey sounds by
techno producers, but even that will get boring when there’s overkill. But
I believe there will always been good DJ’s and good trax...... It’s all
about keeping up high standards.

NTT: What has made the Mija parties such an outstanding concept...what is so
different about them?

Louis: I’ll let you know in the summer when I’ve done some!!! The one’s
I’ve done so far have only been small, but there are some biggies on the
horizon..... Watch this space!

NTT: Is Ibiza just as exciting or even better nowadays from when you had a
residency at Mambo?

Louis: Yes. I get excited every time I go. There will always be naysayers, but the place has an atmosphere and spirit that is way older than the dance music
scene. Just get out there and have fun!

NTT: What is a track that you love to play that everyone wants you to name?

Louis: It’s been one of my biggest trax for almost a year......

Kris Wadsworth – Mainline – Hypercolour

It has such an amazing vocal..... And I don’t play many vocals. I’d love
to say I’d signed it..... But I didn’t. LOL.
