Right now the shoe fits for Jon Gurd and you can rest assure that it will be time to get your dancing shoes when he releases some big tracks. Name That Track got an exclusive interview with Jon whose entourage will be the one you want to be hanging with in the future...

NTT:   So give us the brief story of how your musical career got started?

Jon: Well I guess it all started listening to old rave tapes that my bro used to bring home for his many outings when i was 13 or so, which lead to getting decks, collecting vinyl and so on. then when I was 19 i landed a monthly residency for night called Slinky in Bournemouth UK, they were packing in 2000 people every Friday and it basically threw me in the deep end..... then a few years after that I met one of my soon to be best mates and producer partner, Dave Robertson (who produces under the 'Reset Robot' guise) in my local record shop. He taught me lots of production tips and tricks which I later developed whilst producing my own solo stuff...

NTT:   How long have you been pitching your music to other labels and when was the time that you actually felt that things were going to start to get a
little serious?

Jon: Well I'd had a couple of tracks on Cr2 a few years back that did pretty well, which gave me a bit of a name in the industry I guess. From there I joined an Artist management company who helped me start a label called Killawatt.... a few months after that I found myself running Killawatt on my own. I was getting quite a bit of joy, releasing my own material every month whilst building a decent reputation among some of the big names on the scene. But i got to the end of 2009 realizing that I'm not a label owner and that I didn't particularly enjoy running it. I wasn't giving my tracks a proper release. So I decided to pitch to other more established labels this year.

NTT:   What have you learned from Louis Osbourne?

Jon: That being an Aston villa fan is much more fun than a Pompey fan!!

NTT: What's in store for you in the upcoming year?

Jon: I have another release coming on D-Nox's 'Sprout' label, which I'm excited about... I've got 3 more finished tracks that I'm just about to tout to labels too, so we'll see what happens with those. DJ wise, I have a tour of Brazil coming in the summer, with a few UK and Europe dates around it. I'll be updating my Myspace gig list in the next few weeks.

NTT:  What's a track that you love to play that everyone wants you to name?

Jon: Well it was 'Reset Robot - Sinppa'. Dave finished it about a year ago and it was on release on Sci + Tech this month, people have been asking what it's called for ages, now you know!
