As Ferris Bueller once said, ”Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while you can miss it.” Fortunately for Dimitri Nakov, he has not missed a thing as this UK born DJ/producer has totally made waves in the country of Brazil. It was always in the back of his mind when he was a child that he would make it over to this country. Not only did he make it over but this country made his music career. Already having played in some of the biggest clubs and festivals in South America, Dimtri Nakov has also aligned himself with some good company that being Sasha and Digweed. With these two in the mix, a couple of nice releases on Bedrock, Dimitri Nakov is certainly someone to look out for. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a Dimitri from Paris and a Dimitri from Brazil? Name That Track caught up with the one from Brazil...

NTT:   So tell us what its like to have a release under Bedrock and we have to ask what is it like to work with John Digweed?

Dimitri: John is highly professional and a purveyor of quality house and techno since I can remember. It feels really good to be part of the team with John and Bedrock, an unexpected pleasure and surprise. And having collaborated with Sasha numerous times it sort of completes a circle.

NTT:  It's funny that a lot of DJs find another place in the world that they love other than their origin.  Yours happens to be in Brazil, can you tell us about your relationship with this country and why this happens to most DJs or musicians?

Dimitri: I first heard Brazilian rhythms and rhymes when I was about 8 years old, and living in the UK I remember thinking, I must go there, get some sun and some rhythms. When I was 24 and working with 10 Kilo, Surround Sounds and TIP I found myself an excuse to go to Sao Paulo and a gig there as well. Before I knew it I was in Sao Paulo and Rio DJ'ing  and then all over the country. Having slightly missed the boat in the UK I set up in Brazil and helped professionalize 2 organisations, Tribe and Xxxperience (today the attendance for these events is between 10 and 25,000 people) so stayed on and developed my career there.

Throughout history people have earned their wings in foreign countries, or conquered them. For me I was always a little displaced as I come from such a variety of places and nationalities and so I sought fame and fortune abroad. We all know that musicians and DJ's have a higher fee when away from home, its always worked this way.

NTT:   You have worked with many premium DJs, who has been the most rewarding to work with?

Dimitri: Sasha has by far been the most rewarding, due to his passion for music, his hard working attitude and his friendship. Sasha always included me in his projects and we have always had great fun as well, not to mention a string of collaboration tracks we just finished (forthcoming on Emfire). This said, Layo and Bushwacka, for similar reasons have been a great inspiration and work partners as has Luciano been.

NTT:   Can you tell us some of the artists that you have discovered in Brazil and how you have helped their careers?

Dimitri: The most obvious character from Brazil would be Gabe. He gave me a demo CD many years ago and since then a friendship formed and I was able to play his music all over the world and help promote it and help him develop his sound and style. Also very helpful to him and us all was when I brought "Park It In The Shade' and 'Coma' (both by Sasha) and also 'Move!' by Smith and Selway to his studio for us to remix. Another is Marcelo Vor, another young DJ/Producer. Gui Boratto is another although he was well on his way to success when I met him.

NTT:  Is there an city or area in the world that you feel there will be a big push of music coming out in the future?

Dimitri: Eastern Europe is well on its way to dominate the dance scene as is Brazil. I receive new promos from from new artists and labels daily from South American and Eastern Europe.

NTT:  What is a track that you love to play that everyone wants you to name?

Dimitri: Of late in Brazil it has been Gary Beck - Sholto, new projects from Gabe and Vor and my tracks with Sasha.
