There is only a handful of DJs that can make the ladies groove on the dancefloor. You can count on DJ Hal to be among those DJs who will make the dancefloor ratio be good. Besides playing some of the biggest festivals in the world such as Glastonbury and Dance Valley, DJ Hal has played in film festival parties around the world where it is so important to get the ladies dancing when the night is young. Instead of sending someone into outer space to find another race, it seems that DJ Hal has been sent from outer space to give us some grace. Name That Track caught up with DJ Hal to talk about his new “Desire” EP and how they got the caramel in the Caramilk bar?

NTT:   We know that you have a liking to "2001:  A Space Odyssey", so can you tell us which science fiction movie you found most inspiring to have the most unique sounds?

DJ Hal: Anything by John Carpenter.  The fact that he made the music himself on his synth always goes down well with me, moody atmospheric chords that swim in an out of each other to create suspense and fear.

NTT:    You have a pretty impressive resume in your DJ career and you have seem to have done it all, can you tell us a time when you were DJing that you felt the most pressure?

DJ Hal: Playing Dance Valley in Holland when the decks were set up in the wrong order and I picked up the needle from the vinyl that was playing, two seconds of silence before i dropped it back down . .  i felt terrible after that, and never made that mistake again!

NTT:  You have played with some of the biggest names like Guetta and Fatboy Slim, instead of us asking you what you have learned them, what do you think they have learned from you?

DJ Hal: I've found in the past that i can make superstar DJs a little worried, they can be intimidated by my technical 3 and 4 deck work.  I hope I make them try harder!
NTT:   Can you tell us a little bit about this "Desire" EP?

DJ Hal: I tried to keep this EP a little more minimal with less percussive layers, but still retaining my unique sound.  Desire is full of the emotion of the word and i hope it transfers onto the dance floor.  Pavlov's Dog is more progressive and techy and can really grab you by the scruff of the neck if you're not careful.

NTT:   You are known to fill the floor with beautiful women, can you tell us your secret?

DJ Hal: Deep bass grooving and a little melody works for me.  Obviously a love of beautiful women and surrounding myself with them helps, but I know that where the girls are dancing, the boys will follow!

NTT:  What is a track that you love to play that everyone wants you to name?

DJ Hal: That changes month to month, but the most recent dance floor favorite that people ask about is -Telonius - Hit Me (Pooleys Mix). .  this is a good example of one of those tunes that makes girls flock to the dance floor.
