Do you want to know what Clint Stewart is cooking in his music cauldron? Just to let you know that is it a stew of goodness READ MORE...

If you want to take a look into the future of electronica music then you should listen to Applescal’s “A Mishmash of Changing Moods”. It is a journey into the mind of one who represents the future generation of artists who are more than ready to embark on this scene. After the success of his debut album “A Slave’s Commitment”, this sophomore effort is what veterans such as John Digweed, DJ Hell, Laurent Garnier and Hernan Cattaneo have been looking forward to. At the tender age of 22, Applescal is a true musician who produces and performs his own tracks. Is this something that we should expect from the next generation of artists who are making groundbreaking albums? It certainly might be the rule of thumb from now on. Name That Track caught up with Applescal to find out about the “Traum”atic effects of this album that is ready to erupt onto the scene...

NTT:  Can you explain when you decided to start a musical career and was
there a musical influence that inspired you to get into it?

Applescal: It's never been a decision. I've always made music for fun since i was young. Practicing and being an addict of making electronic music brought me to where i am now. I've been inspired by a lot of artists.
Coldplay, Boards of Canada, Flying Lotus, James Holden, Alanis
Morissette, Radiohead. All kinds of music which is made with soul and
which touches me.

NTT: What do you call your music?  Do you think it falls under a
certain kind of genre?

Applescal: Asking a musician about what genre he fits in is always tricky.
Because most of them can't explain what their music sounds like. Music
is not for the mouth but for the ears. For me it's like electroncia
with a lot of melodies and climaxes which could fit in the IDM genre,
but it's up to the listeners who have to (or like to) decide.

NTT:  How do people treat you in this industry because of your young age
and do you have a mentor to lead the way?

Applescal: Just normal i guess. Most people are nice to me, sometimes they react surprised. I make the music i want to make myself, so i don't have a musical mentor. Although, my record label gave me some clues about how to get the maximum out of my music, which was nice. For the things beside making music i have some people who help me, which i'm grateful of.
NTT:   Tell us a little bit about this album?

Applescal: Well, it's a 14 tracker. It's a cd with a lot playful beats, melodies
and baselines, which are longer than 8 bars and who appear to go
around all time. The album is more personal to me than any other work
i've released because this is who i really am. The CD also contains a
bonus track of 9 minutes which will never be released in any digital
format.

NTT:   There is an Icelandic volcano that is going on!  How do you feel
about your cover art of your album?

Applescal: hahaha. i make jokes of it all the time. this once in a lifetime
eruption unfortunately jams a lot of air traffic and made a hand full
of Icelandic people homeless. Beside these shitty things i think it's
awesome because my friend made the cover like 4 months ago. A bigger
coincidence couldn't be possible and i think it's crazy!

NTT:  Is there a track that you love to play that everyone wants you to name?

Applescal: One of my tracks. This would be 'The Key of Genes' because of this track was one of the first i finished and knew i was able to do a new
album again. if i have to mention a track of another musician it would
be Apparat's 'You Don't Know Me'. This one is probably my favourite of
all time because it does something to me.
