How to Make Money Selling Drugs (TIFF Docs)-Matthew Cooke’s controversial documentary of getting to financial freedom by selling drugs is surely one to look out for at TIFF this year. Eminem, 50 Cents and Russell Simmons make appearances and were the best in the business before they become famous and they tell you how much chopping they really did and how it was truly done.  Sometimes you got to do what you got to do and these guys were masters a their craft.

ABC’s of Death (Midnight Madness)-Whatever happened to the Creepshows or the Tales of the Darkside movies of our era.  Drafthouse FIlms have finally put together a daring and exceptional film together where 26 directors shows you 26 different ways to die.  Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), Ben Wheatley (Kill List) and Adam Wingard (You’re Next) are some of the notables to watch out for.   Or maybe you’re gut because this may be too much too handle.

Looper (Gala Presentation)-Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a mob hitman who gets the assignment to kill himself in the future.  That person in the future is played by Bruce Willis so you get one hell of an action packed mind bending futuristic thriller where time travel exists.  It’s illegal though but mobsters have definitely master the technology to get something done and Levitt is considered the best looper.  From Third Rock to the Sun to The Dark Knight Rises he is pretty good.

Lords of Salem (Midnight Madness,1987)-Everyone’s favourite horror director Rob Zombie is back with a vengeance with his new installment to his impressive resume.  Rob includes his wife Sherri Moon once again who plays a DJ who unleashes a 300 year old coven of witches from when she plays a cursed record.  Pandemonium strikes the city of Salem, Massachusetts and you will have to figure out how it plays out once the witches strike.  Curiosity killed the cat right?

Spring Breakers (Kill Bill,2004)-James Franco stars in this comedy and plays a gangster who saves the lives of four spring breakers who are thrown in jail for robbing a restaurant.  Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Heather Morris make up this brat pack who must do the dirty work of Franco’s in the beaches of Miami.  This flick should be loads of fun as Franco plays a Kevin Federline type character and Gomez playing someone so incongruent to Justin Beiber’s girlfriend.

Passion (Special Presentaion) We all loved the movie Disclosure but Passion from our favourite director Brian DePalma may certainly make it look like its for children. This twisted tale of revenge stars Rachel McAdams who plays a powerful career woman who begins to play games with her assistant played by The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’s Noomi Rapace. Be prepared for an erotic thriller that will certainly take cinematic imagery to new heights. Office romances will never be the same after this film.

Arthur Newman (Special Presentation)-Colin Firth returns to TIFF triumphantly and plays a depressed divorcee who fakes his death and winds up with a troubled young woman played by Emily Blunt.  Both embark on a weird and twisted journey cross-country and break into homes and take on the identities of the absent residents.  Arthur Newman may be a new rendition of Something Wild or Bonnie and Clyde.  When you have these two fine actors sharing the silver screen, certainly nothing can go wrong.

Sometimes during TIFF it his difficult to keep up with the madness and everyone wants to have the best time in such a short period.  Selecting movies can be a tough task and not everyone has the money to be throwing around watching movies that don’t complement their palette.  FERNTV selects our top 10 flicks that we recommend to go see at The Toronto International Film Festival this year which will be well worth your time and money spent.  For your eyes only of course.  (No order)

The Master (Special Presentation)-Paul Thomas Anderson returns to direct madman Joaquin Phoenix who plays an aimless WWII veteran who meets up with Philip Seymour Hoffman who is a founder of a new religion.  The movie focuses on the study of male power and the wars they wage on each other.  Paul Thomas Anderson brings the most anticipated film at TIFF in a 70mm type of way.

Aftershock (Midnight Madness,)-You know it is going to be one bloody affair when Eli Roth is in a movie.  This time he teams up with Chilean director Nicolás López to bring you the ultimate nightmare of a group of travelers who must survive the aftermath let alone aftershock of a massive earthquake in Chile.  Inspired by the earthquake that shook Chile a few years ago, both López and Roth put their twisted minds together to bring you one amazing race of survival and with a blood and gore.

Thanks for Sharing (Special Presentation)-Two of the most charming personalities, Mark Ruffalo and Gwyneth Paltrow,  come together on screen to play sex addicts who join a group to overcome their addictions.  Stuart Blumberg directs this comedy drama and touches upon the quest for sobriety amongst sex addicts and their struggle with compulsions.  Being a sex addict is real and you could lose your whole career if you can’t control it.  Damn, you could even include Pink in the movie and she can show you!
