Planning ahead allowed Julie Hebbs vision of the Forsya Boutique Gallery located in Vancouver to come to fruition. Entering into her sophomore year and showcasing some of the best indie Canadian designers, Julie has her concept totally in place for her designers and more importantly for her customers. With the our global economy struggling, making fashion totally affordable and accessible to her clientele is how the Forsya Boutique Gallery became a forseeable future for Julie Hebb. FERNTV got some quality air time with one of the leading eco-entrepreneurs of the fashion industry.
FERNTV: The Forsya Boutique Gallery only carries lines that are from indie Canadian designers, did you come up with a unique business plan in order to stay in business especially with our struggling economy and without having to depend on big brand names?
Julie: I find the way the economy is struggling just gives people more initiative to spend their money more wisely. What better way to help your own economy by spending your money locally and on Canadian made products.
FERNTV: Sustainable Fashion is really big in Vancouver, do you think your store one day will carry only lines that are sustainable?
Julie: We do carry eco lines and a lot of our designers have eco pieces in their collections. My motto is to be purely Canadian and that too helps helps lower our ecological footprint on the world, sustainable fabrics are a plus and we would welcome more sustainable Canadian designers, but it has to be made here too!
FERNTV: Now that you have the first year under your belt, can you tell us what has been your greatest learning experience?
Julie: What I have loved to learn is my clientele, getting feedback from my returning customers of what they are really looking for. Its very gratifying when your customer leaves happy.
FERNTV: You have art at your boutique. Tell us about that?
Julie: Every 6 weeks we showcase a new local artist, we have an opening night where we clear the store of most of the product and have a reception for the artist and everyone gets a chance to meet them and discuss their work.
FERNTV: Tell us about your in-house line and what we can expect from this Boutique in the future?
Julie: Our in house line, is very feminine, fun and very easy to wear! Its slightly mod inspired with a little twist of the 80's with rouched sleeves. Bright fun pastels with bolder colours and light mix of the perfect floral.
